t’s becoming a bit of a Workscape tradition to spend a December afternoon wrapping gifts at the Best of the Batch Foundation’s Annual Wrapping Party. “It was my first-year volunteering at Best of the Batch and it’s safe to say that I will be returning every year now to volunteer! It truly is such a great organization,” says Workscape Finance Manager, Brittney Lojas. “Everyone there was so friendly and helpful and really wanted to make a difference,” she stated.
Created in 1999 by retired Steelers Quarterback, Charlie Batch, Best of the Batch Foundation was originally started to give back to the quarterback’s hometown of Homestead, it now serves over 3,800 children and 8counties throughout Western Pennsylvania by providing various programs (such as mentoring and STEM) to school-aged children.
Batch-A-Toys is a community-wide program that supports families in need at the holidays by providing them with toys, household essentials and meals. Every year, more than 8,000 toys and everyday household items are donated to the organization. “It felt good to give time to help others in the community that are less fortunate,” said Workscape Project Manager, Allyn Fenwick. “It really put the holiday in perspective once you see the amount of time and effort that Charlie Batch and his workers put into this.”
The Annual Wrapping Party is such a popular opportunity to give back and make the holidays brighter for a reason. “We were only there for a few hours, but Best of the Batch treated us like family, and it was a very heartwarming experience,” explained Lojas. “I’m very thankful to have been able to play a part in bringing Christmas to families around the Pittsburgh area.” It’s becoming a tradition for a good reason. “I will definitely be doing it next year too,” announced Fenwick.
Not only did Workscape collect toys in our showroom all throughout December and wrap them, but we helped the Best of the Batch Foundation furnish their new Clubhouse. It was truly a full circle moment wrapping gifts in their new space after we helped bring it to life earlier this year. We are so proud to give back to the community and to help non-profit organizations with design and outfit the spaces that help them do what they do best.
