hen Avonworth School District set out to renovate their high school, they wanted more than just a refreshed cafeteria and common area—they envisioned a space that would energize students, foster collaboration, and serve as a true gathering hub. They turned to us to help bring that vision to life.
Through in-depth conversations with district leadership and project partners, IKM Architecture, we gained a clear understanding of their goals—creating an environment that balances functionality, flexibility, and a sense of community. A post-and-beam Timber solution from DIRTT became the foundation of the design, paired with varied seating and collaborative areas to accommodate different student needs.
Avonworth was looking for a bold, eye-catching element that would stand out in the space while seamlessly fitting into their existing design. Durability was key, as the piece needed to withstand high-traffic student use while maintaining its aesthetic appeal. The result was a striking, flexible Timber installation that enhances the common area, making it both a focal point and a functional part of the environment. We included SitOnIt Seating furniture in district colors to give students a place to gather and best utilize the space.
As Pittsburgh’s DIRTT Territory Sales Manager Brad Spier put it, “through conversation and understanding with district leadership about their goals, a post-beam Timber solution from DIRTT, along with different seating and collaborative areas for students, helped to create this unique environment.”
The Avonworth project is a testament to how thoughtful design can transform educational spaces—turning them into hubs of creativity, connection, and inspiration.
“The space created at Avonworth Middle/High School with Workscape turned out great”, exclaimed Avonworth School District Superintendent, Jeff Hadley. “We wanted a unique space for students and our school community to enjoy, and we received precisely that. We thank everyone at Workscape for making this space a reality!”
