IRTT’s modular solutions are widely known for transforming commercial spaces, but what happens when that same innovation is brought into a home? Michael Volpatt of Volpatt Construction decided to do just that, incorporating DIRTT into his kitchen and bathrooms—not just for its aesthetic and functional benefits, but also to expand opportunities in the construction industry.
“There were two reasons why I wanted to use DIRTT,” Michael explained. “One was just for personal reasons. I like the product. I like the concept. I think it's very interesting. I think it's a beautiful product. I saw what Workscape had in their kitchen, and I thought that was really good. I wanted to do something similar to that. It has a very modern feel to it.”
Home renovations can be complex, with long lead times and unexpected delays, but Michael found that working with DIRTT simplified the process. “The process seemed easy, seamless. It wasn’t challenging at all,” he said.
Reflecting on previous renovations, he noted, “I had my house redone in California, and just the whole process of getting the cabinetry made—it just wasn’t as simple. I don’t know if it was the supplier, me, or the contractor, but it wasn’t as easy as it was with DIRTT.”
One of the biggest advantages? Speed. “When you do residential design and you do a custom like we did here, where you literally can use every inch that you have with DIRTT, and it turns around in, you know, four to five weeks—versus doing that residentially, you would have been talking like 12 to 14 weeks for a fully customizable kitchen,” Michael explained. “I think that in itself right there probably saved a lot of heartache because it went very quickly. In the past, if I’ve done a custom kitchen where literally every cabinet was a specific size that I wanted, it would have taken a good 12 weeks to get in.”
That efficiency was a game-changer said Volpatt, “I think that's a huge highlight. In general, DIRTT’s time frame is winning hands down every time.”
Another key factor in the project’s success was the DIRTT team. “Everyone at DIRTT was all over it. My Construkt project manager was awesome. She knows what she's talking about. She paid careful attention to everything, worked closely with our carpenters, and was there to solve problems when we had them. It just worked,” he explained.
The final result? A breathtaking transformation - “Having the product in my house—the end result is absolutely beautiful. People are just stunned by the transformation," he said.
Michael’s project is a prime example of how DIRTT’s innovative approach to interiors isn’t limited to commercial applications. The same precision, modern aesthetic, and efficiency that make DIRTT ideal for offices, healthcare facilities, and education spaces translate seamlessly into residential settings. From the flexibility of modular walls to the sleek, customizable finishes, DIRTT is redefining home design—one stunning renovation at a time.
