nly man is capable of work, and only man works, at the same time by work occupying his existence on earth. Thus work bears a particular mark of man and of humanity, the mark of a person operating within a community of persons. And this mark decides its interior characteristics; in a sense it constitutes its very nature.
- Saint John Paul II, Laborem Exercens
For over 90 years Life’s Work of Western Pa has quietly been helping people reach the American dream – the purpose and the ability to contribute to the community. The organization helps those who would otherwise be marginalized and instead gives them the opportunity to work and contribute to society.
Life’s Work’s mission centers on assisting those with developmental disabilities, physical limits, and other employment barriers, as a means of looking find work. For most people, work is taken for granted but for those who are challenged there is no greater source of pride and dignity.
Work is at the very core of the American dream because it earns dignity and without that dignity you cannot pursue happiness.
When Life’s Work decided to move out of an old building which no longer made sense to their operations, Workscape jumped at the chance to help and further pursue their important mission. By partnering with LGA Partners and senior management of Life’s Work, the team formed a beautiful and functional space with a prominent location on the South Side.
The design and finishes created a sense of empowerment, central to Life’s Work’s culture. Both the staff and clients now have a workscape that mirrors the pride, dignity, and professionalism that they bring to work everyday.
